A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

Back in the day when makeup removers were still unexplored in my sprouting interest with makeup world, I used to remove my eye makeup with baby oil.  Baby oils worked for a little while until I discovered my first eye makeup removers in the form of Andrea EyeQ’s Makeup Remover Gel (PHP900.00) and Bloom Nuts About You Sweet Almond Cleansing Oil (PHP925.00).

Then I moved to a more costly brand and purchased MAC Cleanse Off Oil.  It’s a facial makeup remover, which I turned into eye makeup remover as well.  I was so happy about this product — It’s the bomb! — and was so ready to repurchase until I found out its new price from PHP1,550.00 to PHP1,700.00.  Ouch!  I was unwilling to spend my money on that amount at that time so I searched for an alternative and found Bifesta Sebum Cleansing Lotion (PHP500.00+), which is available for purchase at Watson’s.  It’s Japan’s first drugstore water-based makeup remover and I read a lot of positive feed backs so I had to try it.  For few instances, I tried this Bifesta on my eyes, too, but always leaves a very uncomfortable feeling — almost burning — so I guess, my sensitive eyes are meant for something else.

Good thing, my new dual-phase eye makeup remover found me just in time and changed my life.  Please continue reading for more details.

BREAKDOWN

Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover (US$15.00 or PHP725.00 for 3.75 fl.oz or 110mL) is an oil-free, hypoallergenic, and ophthalmologist-tested makeup remover.  It claims to mildly remove any traces of eye makeup including water proof products like mascara without straining the soft skin around the eyes.  It is housed in a plastic bottle with an internal threaded opening and a tiny hole so you can pour the product in a slow and controlled manner.

HIT-OFFS

Is Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover good enough for you?  Probably yes especially if you have dry or oily skin, if you wear contact lens, if you love going all out with a smoky eye, and if you are into fragrance-free products.  Happy user here as these points and myself are on the same wavelength.

SOME FLAWS

While everything is removed including my eyebrow product, primer, eyeshadows, gel liner, and mascara, I still struggle to remove my lower lid makeup using this remover.  Maybe I should change the way I drag my favorite round cotton pads after I press them against my closed eye lid from downwards to sideways.  Another solution: Remember Q-tips always come in handy.

KEY INGREDIENTS

(1) Poloxamer 184 is a cleansing agent that dissolves oils and trapped soil to assist in removal from the skin.  (2) Cyclohexasiloxane Solvent is a liquid capable of dissolving materials in a product.

I absolutely love this eye makeup remover!  I highly recommend it.  No redness, no irritations, no burning sensations or whatsoever.  What’s your favorite eye makeup remover?  I hope you find this review helpful.  Until next time, friends!

  1. I don’t use makeup remover anymore. What I do is use facial wipes to take my makeup off and then off with my facial wash. This looks interesting though. Will keep this in mind when I feel the urge to try out one again. 😉
