Did you know that one of my favorite pastimes is to check my Google Analytics account?  I love to know what keywords people are searching and what entries are frequently visited coming from the search engines.  It is also a way for me to find inspiration for my next blog topic.  We all know that it is very frustrating for a visitor if he failed to see what he’s really looking for, isn’t it?  So today, I am reviewing Flawless SAS Soap because I simply love my visitors and these keywords obviously have been appearing since the first time I mentioned it on my blog.

THE DETAILS

The Flawless SAS Soap (PHP140/US$3 for 90g) is part of the Flawless Acne Control Kit, which can also be individually acquired at any Flawless branches nationwide.  It claims that it can fight bacteria that causes acne.  It also promises that it can help in controlling the shine on the face.  It is supposed to be compatible for people with dry or oily skin.

THE PACKAGING

The packaging is very simple.  The soap is enclosed in a plastic.  Nothing glamorous.

THE INGREDIENTS

(1) Triethanolamine, often abbreviated as TEA.  It serves as a pH balancer in many different cosmetic products – ranging from cleansing creams and milks, skin lotions, eye gels, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving foams etc.  TEA is a fairly strong base: a 1% solution has a pH of approximately 10, whereas the pH of skin is below pH 7, more or less 5.5-6.0. Cleansing milk/cream emulsions based on TEA are particularly good at removing makeup.  (wiki)

(2) Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid.  mainly used in the production of detergents, soaps, and cosmetics such as shampoos and shaving cream products.  Soaps are not made directly from stearic acid, but indirectly by saponification of triglycerides consisting of stearic acid esters.  (wiki)

(3) Lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid.  It is a white, powdery solid with a faint odor of bay oil or soap.  It has a long shelf-life, and is non-toxic and safe to handle.  It is mainly used for the production of soaps and cosmetics. (wiki)

(4) Sodium Hydroxide is an inorganic compound.  It is a white solid and highly caustic metallic base and alkali salt.  It is used in many industries, mostly as a strong chemical base in the manufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents and as a drain cleaner.  (wiki)

(5) Myristic Acid is a common saturated fatty acid.  A myristate is a salt or ester of myristic acid.  The ester isopropyl myristate is used in cosmetic and topical medicinal preparations where good absorption through the skin is desired.  (wiki)

(6) Salicylic Acid is a key ingredient in many skin-care products for the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns, keratosis pilaris, acanthosis nigricans, ichthyosis, and warts.  (wiki)

(7) Psidium Guajava, the common guava, yellow guava, or lemon guava.

(8) Glycerin is a component of fat or oil.  It is recognizably different from other soaps because it is transparent.  It is mainly as a means of improving smoothness, providing lubrication and as a humectant.  Glycerin soap is used by people with sensitive, easily irritated skin because it prevents skin dryness with its moisturizing properties.  It draws moisture up through skin layers and slows or prevents excessive drying and evaporation.  (wiki)

(9) Coco Diethanolamide is a diethanolamide made by reacting the mixture of fatty acids from coconut oils with diethanolamine.  It is a viscous liquid and is used as a foaming agent in bath products like shampoos and hand soaps, and in cosmetics as an emulsifying agent.  (wiki)

(10) EDTA or Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is an aminopolycarboxylic acid and a colourless, water-soluble solid.  In shampoos, cleaners and other personal care products EDTA salts are used as a sequestering agent to improve their stability in air.  (wiki)

(11) Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent found in consumer products, including soaps, detergents, etc.  (wiki)

THE SAFETY

If you wish to try Flawless SAS Soap, be reminded that you need to ask your skin doctor’s advice first before trying this soap.  This soap contains few strong ingredients that might harm your skin if you are clueless about your skin’s current condition.  I started using this soap last year because my jawline got infected for the very first time by cystic acne — those awful hard to touch and under the skin pimples type.  I used this soap as a maintenance after I had my Regular Acne Control Facial at Flawless.  I have never had terrible acne since then.  While I used to use this twice a day, at the moment, I use it twice a week or whenever I feel I need it.

  1. I’m kind of disappointed with the ingredients they put in their products. Some can be very drying and harmful to our skin. Im very cautious with the ingredients whenever I purchased a certain acne products. After I had my facial and power peel session, they offered me their acne kit. I was very reluctant to buy it at first since upon seeing the ingredients, most of their products contain alcohol. We all know that it is given that astrigent is alcohol-based but it is totally not ideal for acne prone skin because it can make your skin dry and it may cause more breakouts. Another thing that bothers me is their sunscreen gel. Its nice that it is in gel form as it would not clog your pores. However, it contains Octinoxate. These are one of the ingredients that we should avoid when getting a sunscreen. It has a harmful effects to our body, specifically the endocrine system. It penetrates the skin and can disrupt our hormone system. Aside from that, it also affects the aquatic life too. If you want to know more about this topic, you can make a more further research on this. You’d be shock of the common products we used are actually considered as harmful.
